With Every Breath – A New Beginning
“I have decided to stick to love…hate is too great a burden to bear.” ― Martin Luther King Jr.
With every breath, we have a choice. A moment to inhale truth, exhale fear. To sit with discomfort, to reflect, to decide. And with every breath, we either deepen our understanding of ourselves and the world—or let the weight of history and circumstance pull us under.
I am Dr. Dawn Sizemore—mother, educator, entrepreneur, writer, and advocate for learning in all its forms. I have spent my life navigating life’s ups and downs, birthing ideas and children, shaping visions and futures. And now, I want to bring you into a space where we pause, together, to reckon with where we stand and where we must go.
This moment—one of political chaos, social unraveling, and emboldened regression—demands more than just reaction. The rollback of DEI policies, the fractures widening in our institutions, the uncertainty of tomorrow—this is not just a crisis. It is a test.
It is an opportunity.
To recalibrate. To shift from self-interest to collective purpose. To ask, Who are we in this moment? And who do we dare to become?
We must be brave enough to go inward—to unlearn, to self-examine, to reposition ourselves on the right side of history. That takes humility. That takes courage. And it takes an unwavering belief that our stories, our experiences, our breath, matter.
Through this newsletter, I will share reflections on leadership, identity, business, and the human experience that binds it all together in hopes that I will ignite a cause in everyone who chooses to reflect with me. I will write as I speak—as a Black woman who sees humanity and the marginalized with reverence and urgency. As a mother who teaches her children to stand tall in their truths. As a leader who believes that impact is measured not just in wealth but in the wisdom we leave behind.
So, breathe with me. Think with me. Let’s rebuild something beyond ourselves. Let’s move with purpose, with intention, courage, and with love.
Because with every breath, we have a choice. A choice to meet this moment with clarity, with intention, with an unshakable resolve. I choose to move not in haste, but with the quiet force of a tide—steady, deliberate, and unstoppable. For my people. For the future, we refuse to be denied.
